Young buyers targeted at Empire project

By Sydnia Yu - Globe and Mail

The latest addition to the condominium landscape in North York is a dramatic, crescent-shaped building at the corner of Yonge Street and Finch Avenue, which is coming into its own as a haven for young buyers in a hurry.

The Continental, the first of two glass towers in the project by Empire Communities, is already under construction. It will contain 274 suites and be ready for occupancy in the spring of 2007.

The second phase, C-Condominiums, with 242 suites, will complete the sweeping crescent. The two towers, both 21 storeys, will bookend an 8,000 square-foot recreation area. Units in C-Condominiums will be ready for occupancy later in 2007.

About 100 suites are still available, according to Karen Kessel, Empire’s vice-president of marketing. “There’s a big price range with everything for everyone in every budget category,” she says.

C-Condominium has proven to be a big hit with newly minted technology workers who’ve just launched their careers at the nearby Xerox campus and numerous other research and development facilities close by, according to Ms. Kessel.

It has also attracted empty-nesters from North Toronto and York University students whose parents are looking for secure housing during their children’s undergraduate years.

Units range from one-bedroom models to ones with three bedrooms and a den, and features include granite kitchen countertops, hardwood flooring and top-end stainless-steel appliances and bathroom fixtures.

The amenities area will have an indoor pool, whirlpool, exercise room and entertainment rooms, as well as two guest suites.
