Foundry Lofts – 1100 Lansdowne Avenue
Back in the early 1900s, Canada Foundry Co. Ltd. built and supplied locomotives for railways across Canada. Today, the rich history of this company and the Great Canadian Railway is kept alive with the restoration and conversion of the warehouse into The FoundryLofts - 104 hard lofts in Toronto.
These authentic Toronto lofts are a rare find. Incorporating original exposed brick walls and large warehouse-style windows, The FoundryLofts are the real deal. Some lofts offer outdoor patios and most lofts feature windows overlooking the atrium in addition to original warehouse-style windows looking out to the city.
The FoundryLofts are a hard loft project, the conversion of an approximately 100-year-old locomotive factory (built in 1900) into vintage one, two and three-storey lofts. These lofts have approximately 19-foot ceilings in the living areas on the first floor level, and between 10 and 17-foot ceilings in the living areas on the second floor, with remaining ceilings at 9-foot height.
Loft conversion features include exposed brick, warehouse style large windows, exposed metal duct work, open concept kitchens. Loft sizes vary between approximately 600 and 1,905 square feet. The unique feature of this development is be a 16,000 sq. ft. interior atrium, with trees, park benches and walkways, and with recreation / gallery space.
The FoundryLofts is a project of E-Park Development Corporation. This same builder is responsible for a number of projects in the immediate vicinity of The FoundryLofts. Originally this building served as a factory for railway locomotives. It is located south of Davenport, north of Dupont St, on the west side of Lansdowne Avenue. The integrity of the building is preserved with only three stories containing 104 units in total. The original vaulted ceiling enclosed a spectacular atrium courtyard that provides inspiration during the summer or winter.
