The quest for a cool oasis in the heart of the city is now over. CanAlfa’s new Liberty Village TownHomes were released recently, bringing to the neighbourhood another great option to hang your hat.
The first 20 of 120 townhomes, which will be built on the south side of Liberty Street just west of Strachan Avenue, are unique in a number of ways. Lower units are 730 sq. ft., and will have a 200-sq.-ft. patio; upper units of 1160 sq. ft. will have 160-sq.-ft. of rooftop deck, perfect for outdoor entertaining. Pre-construction prices for these townhomes start at $242,900.
Liberty Village is now experiencing a renaissance and is witnessing a booming industry in film, graphic arts and design together with a mushrooming retail sector. Partly attributable to retaining the best of the past – some of the Edwardian and Victorian architecture has been saved from the wrecker’s ball.
From the first moment Walter Jensen looked out over desolate and abandoned industrial lands south of King Street West and west of Strachan Avenue some 20 years ago, he saw a diamond in ruff.
“I first got involved when I was called in to help rationalize the Massey Ferguson site on King Street in 1983,” says Jensen. “As I became more and more involved, I came to understand what this neighbourhood has meant to the city. I could also clearly see what it could become.”
It is a mix of new and old which gives it the eclectic feel making it one of the most sought after places to live; the 20 newly launched townhomes are themselves unique in many ways.
For one thing, there’s a connection to the outdoors – ground-level patios with the lower units, and swishy rooftop decks for the uppers.
“Ultimately, what this means,” explains the project’s architect, David Hastings, “is that we’ve been able to use the roof as habitable space – a rooftop sanctuary perfect for drinking a martini while watching the sun go down.”
But for those with entertainment – rather than relaxation – on their minds, this has all the sex appeal of your own private nightclub. On balmy nights, just slide open the glass doors between den and terrace, fire up the barbeque, outfit the wet bar, light the candles, and get ready to dance the night away.
That same excitement can be felt in the public spaces, notably the 14,000-sq.-ft. Liberty Club. A full roster of amenities include guest suites, a party room with terrace and balcony, a double-sided fireplace, a billiard table, multi-media lounge, games area, catering kitchen and bar, fitness centre with circuit training, cardio, free weights and yoga studio, rooftop terrace, indoor pool, whirlpool and changing facilities.
One of the greatest benefits is the ability to be at the corner of King and Yonge in just 12 minutes by streetcar, walking distance to the shops and clubs along King West, yet just a few minutes stroll to the serenity of Lake Ontario.
