Vancouver style condos are coming to Toronto
Highrise condos in Toronto until recently have been rather boring, perhaps a result of obtaining the maximum number of units out of the buildings total floor space at the expense of the social component.
Vancouver style on the other hand, is tall thin buildings soaring up to the sky with glass from floor to ceiling designed to catch the light and also the views.
Situated across from the new Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts this 65 storey luxury hotel and condo is scheduled for a completion date of 2011.
The old Pretzel Bell Tavern sits on the same site that the Shangri-La will be erected and the developers are vowing to save it.
Wouldn’t it be exciting if the old(1829) Pretzel Bell re-appeared stronger than ever, sharing the limelight with an International luxury chain of hotels and all linked by a Vancouver development company and world class Architect, James Cheng.
Toronto’s highest condos will soon be appearing on the skyline changing what we see and encouraging the revitalization of downtown Toronto even more.
Several new Toronto condos are ready to join Toronto’s growing skyline. Most are hotel-condominium combinations like the Trump Tower, a 70 storey building in downtown Toronto. Many of these larger Toronto condos are south of Bloor Street and include residential as well as office space.
The Shangri-La, Ritz Carlton Toronto, Trump International Hotel and Tower, Sapphire Tower and the Bay and Adelaide Center are just some of the new projects in the planning/construction phase. These developments conform to Toronto’s intensification plan to have higher density in the urban areas of the GTA to curb future urban sprawl. These larger buildings are going up at key locations of the transportation network.
An example of the new push skyward is the five-star Shangri-La, measuring 65 storeys, 214 meters high with 220 hotel rooms and 353 condos. At this height the Shangri-La will be the 10th-tallest building in Toronto. The Bazis tower at 1 Bloor Street East will be the tallest building in Toronto, though, at 80 storeys.
