New Corktown introduces new appeal to historic Toronto

Well-respected Longo Communities offers the rare opportunity to own a brand new rooftop terrace townhome in Toronto’s historic Corktown area. New Corktown is an intimate gated community situated on the southwest corner of River and Shuter Streets, just minutes from major highways, the St. Lawrence Market, the rejuvenated Distillery District, plus the shops, bakeries and bistros of charming Cabbagetown.

This limited collection of just 16 townhomes is also handy to Toronto’s entertainment and cultural venues including the new Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. Situated just south of Regent Park South, New Corktown residents will benefit from the revitalization of that area, which will form a connection with the surrounding neighbourhoods. In addition, Riverdale Park is just a few blocks north, and Lake Ontario a short drive south.

Each of the two- and three-storey townhomes in New Corktown is crowned by a spacious rooftop terrace, perfect for entertaining. The richly detailed, heritage-inspired architecture by renowned Kirkor Architects features heritage brick with stone components, turrets and other focal points to compliment the existing mid-19th century buildings in the area.

Corktown was originally home to thousands of working class Irish who came to Canada from the County of Cork. Many of the original homes of these workers were unadorned, and their simple, straightforward design has become more captivating with time.

Currently, Corktown is undergoing a renaissance, and has attracted a vibrant community of right-brained artists and left-brained entrepreneurs.

Inside Longo’s townhomes, the open-concept layouts satisfy 21st century families with convenient dens, inviting family rooms, formal living and dining rooms, sumptuous master bedrooms and more (all as per plan). One design, the Queen, offers a lovely 312-sq.-ft. rooftop terrace plus a balcony off the living/dining room for maximum outdoor living space.

Each suite comes complete with parking, as well as a long list of luxury appointments. Among these are solid oak handrails and the choice of metal or oak pickets finished in a natural colour; kitchen cabinets with 42-inch uppers; rich ceramic floor tiles; quality 40-oz./Berber carpeting; and engineered pre-finished laminate flooring.

Longo Communities is a third-generation family-owned business with more than 80 years of industry experience. The company has earned a reputation for meticulous attention to detail and unparalleled construction quality. In addition to 1,000 multi-residential rental properties, Longo Communities has developed and built over 1,500 homes and numerous commercial projects in Ontario. International projects include commercial and residential developments in Texas, Ohio and Florida.

Townhomes at New Corktown range in size from 1,037 to 1,279 sq. ft. and are priced from just $349,900 – remarkable for downtown Toronto. Plus, for a limited time, Longo Communities is offering a grand opening bonus of granite kitchen countertops, stainless steel kitchen appliances and a gas barbecue outlet on the rooftop terrace. Closings are slated for the fall of 2007.

  • Twenty Gothic buyers gathered for a barbecue

Celebrating the end of summer and the ongoing success of its High Park condominium building Twenty Gothic, Monarch recently hosted a barbecue to give buyers the opportunity to meet and mingle with their future neighbours.

Enjoying traditional summer fare of hotdogs and burgers, future Twenty Gothic residents gathered at the sales centre to take in one of the last days of summer in the neighbourhood they will one day call home.

It’s a community most of them already know and love. After all, Twenty Gothic is situated across the street from the High Park subway station, as well as from the boutique shops and restaurants of Bloor Street Village. High Park itself is only a short walk away, allowing the opportunity to take in sports activities, enjoy neighbourhood events, or simply take a stroll or bike ride through the natural landscape.

An amazing array of amenities is available inside the building as well, including a 24-hour concierge, a designer-decorated guest suite, and the Club Twenty recreational space, which features a theatre for private screenings; a billiard room; and a fitness room with a cardio and aerobics area, offering TV viewing while you work out on the commercial-grade fitness equipment. There is also a special occasion/party room with an adjoining lounge and a caterer’s kitchen opening onto a professionally landscaped, 4,600-sq.-ft. terrace with barbecue.

The model demonstrates the spectacular suite features at Twenty Gothic, including soaring nine-ft. ceilings in the principal rooms (except on the second and third floors); a choice of strip laminate flooring, sisal or 40-oz. broadloom in the living/dining room, den and hallways; strip laminate flooring in the foyer; a choice of sisal or plush 40-oz. broadloom in the bedrooms; granite kitchen countertops; a brand-name black or white kitchen appliance package; and a five-ft. soaker tub in the bathroom.

Suites range in size from just under 500 to over 1,700 sq. ft., and are priced from $199,900 to $800,000 plus.

Cityzen Development Group’s London on the Esplanade

From New Dream Homes and Condos Magazine

Cityzen Development Group gives The Esplanade an English twist. They have released their newest community, London on The Esplanade. Inspired by the residences of London, this spectacular community is a dashing new addition to Toronto’s downtown.

“London on The Esplanade is really a unique community,” says Sam Crignano, partner at Cityzen. “It really does have everything an urban buyer looks for—some really amazing high-tech capabilities, unique suite designs, beautiful architecture, and of course a superb location.”

Located on The Esplanade at Scott Street, London on The Esplanade is just steps away from the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts. The BCE Place and Air Canada Centre are within walking distance while the St. Lawrence Market is only minutes away. Great shopping is all around and a Loblaws Superstore and LCBO Vintages are close at hand on Queens Quay. In addition, the buildings themselves will feature a range of trendy shops–always a convenient resource for residents.

London on The Esplanade itself features two distinctly different but complementary buildings, rising from an elegant podium. The west tower rises 33 storeys and features a glass design reflecting the modern style of surrounding buildings in the business core. The east tower rises 16 storeys and features a more traditional glass and brick design, complementing the classic buildings of the St. Lawrence Market and St. Lawrence Hall.

The two towers both offer a wide selection of traditional suites, with unique London lofts available in the podium structure. Suites range in size from 345 to 2,000 square feet and the two-storey lofts range from 640 to 1,815 square feet.

“With two separate towers and a range of suite types, there’s plenty in the way of selection here,” says Paulo Stellato, partner at Cityzen. “We’ve really worked to create something that will set the standard for downtown Toronto—both now and in the future.”

With that in mind, Cityzen has designed London on The Esplanade to meet the high-tech concerns of an urban professional. Featuring wireless internet access throughout the building, an intranet where residents can post messages to each other and to the property management company, as well as a virtual concierge and cyber-doorman, London on The Esplanade is truly a 21st century building. Suites will also be built with state-of-the-art technology for future applications and residents will be able to access the internet in any of the building’s common areas.

And that’s not all that London on The Esplanade boasts in the way of amenities. Its unique Club London facilities feature more than 10,000 square feet of recreational space, including spa treatment rooms as well as areas for cardio, resistance, and weight training, yoga and aerobics. There are both men’s and women’s change rooms, as well as lockers, showers, and steam rooms.

Club London also features a multi-purpose party room with a pub-style bar, a large screen TV, and a catering kitchen. There is a games room with two billiards tables, a fireplace, and a large banquet table. There is a London cinema with theatre-style seating, a multimedia room, a fireside lounge with fabulous views of the city skyline, a reading lounge for relaxing, and a guest suite for overnight visitors.

On the roof of the podium, there is a spectacular pool with a sun deck, a lushly landscaped urban courtyard, and a four-season outdoor whirlpool.

The suites themselves are just as loaded. Each loft and flat includes granite kitchen countertops, six stainless steel appliances, marble showers and floors in the bathrooms, and engineered wood floors. Standard suites all include a balcony and offer 9-foot ceiling heights, while the two-storey lofts also have soaring ceiling heights of up to 20 feet.
