Authentic Toronto Hard Loft Conversions
Lofts in Toronto

Movie House Lofts - 394 Euclid Avenue

Live through history with the Movie House lofts and enjoy the sweet life in Toronto's friendly Little Italy neighbourhood. Converted in 1998 (architect Jackson Goad), this authentic hard loft space was once an actual movie theatre, and contains 18 unique lofts.

Many of them have 16-foot ceilings, with mezzanine floors overlooking the living room. Several of the top-floor suites have roof terraces - ideal for parties and for enjoying peaceful moments in the city. One bedroom units start around 740 square feet and two bedroom lofts range up to 1,300 square feet on three levels.

This authentic loft conversion is so named because it was at one time a movie house. Located on the north-east corner of College St. and Euclid Ave. Only 18 units exist in the building and there is no parking facilities. Most of the living/dining room areas have 16' ceilings with a mezzanine overlooking the space below. Maintenance fees do not include utilities.

The Movie House Lofts was originally built in 1913 as the Western District Orange Hall. As such, it dates from a time in Toronto's evolution when such organizations played an important role in the social and economic life of the city. The original facade of the building was restored during the renovation and is impressive. The Movie House has proven to quite popular as it's one of the few condo lofts in Little Italy.

With its large arched window, exquisite neo-classical detailing - most notably columns, cornice and dentils - it speaks of a time when architects felt comfortable borrowing from the past to be contemporary. That's no longer true and as a result architecture is less able to express the full gamut of human experience. The Movie House Lofts was designated a heritage property by the city in July of 1997 (which makes it amazing that it ever got converted at all).
