Before the office building, this corner location held a factory that was once home to the Otto Higel Co Ltd. By 1912, there were 450 employees in this building, manufacturing player-piano actions and other piano and organ supplies. The company built a second factory in Buffalo in 1914 and a third in New York City in 1916. The company continued operations after the demise of the player-piano market, manufacturing cabinets and wooden toys. It ceased operations in 1944 and for the next four decades the building housed a variety of small businesses, including a printing company whose clients included the Toronto Star. The original building was demolished in 1981, which is when the current building was constructed. And yes, someone does live in the clock tower :) Email or phone 416-388-1960 today if this loft interests you.
