Cube Lofts - 799 College Street

Developer Jim Neilas originally had plans to build a beautiful 8-unit condominium called N-Blox. Designed by Quadrangle Architects, it was to be located in Little Italy. The condos ranged in size from 1,100 to 2,000 square feet and were intended to be as open and spacious as a downtown detached home. But despite some positive press coverage, the project failed to make it off the ground.

Since then, Mr. Neilas has revised his plans for 799 College Street and is instead releasing the 6-storey 21-unit Cube Lofts with one and two bedroom units ranging in size from 550 to 2,000 square feet. Construction is not that far along, as of May 2009, but should one day be complete.

It's nice to see that there are still developers who are interested in creating art rather than building generic, bland towers. Cube Lofts is the perfect example of Art-chitecture. This unique & boutique soft loft will not only add flare to the already vibrant Little Italy neighbourhood, but it will hopefully encourage other developers to put design ahead of density.

The Cube Lofts will feature some very impressive finishes with kitchens offering hardwood flooring, caesar counterops, stainless steel appliances and signature designer kitchen high gloss finish cabinetry.

Located south of College Street on Shaw Street this development offers 20 foot ceilings for two-storey lofts and 9 foot ceilings for one-storey lofts. Cube offers residents la dolce vita - every loft is unique.

Best described as a fusion of Italian zest with modern design, Neilas Inc., the developer behind Cube, wanted to offer residents an eclectic space in a culture-rich, well-established neighbourhood. "The building is modern and some would say it doesn't fit into the neighbourhood, but we think it fits perfectly," says Neilas' President and founder, Jim Neilas. "The area is architecturally diverse and Cube lofts is a refreshing addition to this mix. Furthermore, we kept the building as a mid-rise with ground-floor retail, which is entirely consistent with the mid-rise mixed use tradition of the neighbourhood."

Design is what really sets Cube apart. This architectural marvel, consisting of six storeys and only 21 residences, is already garnering great reviews. "This project has generated more interest in the press and with buyers than projects considerably larger and with a much higher profile," says Neilas. "We have proven that Toronto is ready for cutting-edge design and that people will pay a premium for exclusivity and great design."

The lofts are filled with natural light, thanks to expansive sheets of glass that make up part of Cube's exterior. Unobstructed views of the city skyline and neighbouring parks are yours to behold on either a balcony, terrace or patio.
